We had the opportunity of going on a tour of the Boeing plant here in Mesa about a month ago. We got to see how they assemple the Apache Longbow Helicopters. We saw the process from the yards and yards of wiring to the paint and everything in between (well maybe not the top secret stuff). We were even able to get our picture taken with one. We got to see a demonstration of an extraction from a mock Apache that they started on fire. The fire trucks showed up and put out the fire and even pulled the dummy out before he caught fire. When you see a tiny speck of black in the sky and hear the all too familiar whu-whu-whu of the blades, you hardly notice or pay attention, but when you are that close to one on the ground it really makes you appreciate what a work of art they are and how many cool features they have on them. My kids are so lucky to have a Grandpa that works there and was actually a part of the design process for the Apache. We were so lucky to get such a detailed tour and learn about some of the elements of this magnificent helicopter.
