Okay, so Mesa is awesome about 9 months out of the year, but when it hits June, July & August, we might as well move into an oven on the broil setting. It is just HOT!!! If anyone is wondering what we experience everyday, go to your oven, turn it on to about 350 degrees and wait for it to preheat. Once it is ready, stand really close to the door with your face, and then open the door as fast as you can. Feel that? Yes, that is walking from the parking lot (on the black asphalt) to your car. And don't forget to touch the hot rack in your stove with your bare hand. This will simulate accidentally touching the metal part of your seat belt (a mistake one usually only makes once).
So, how do we stay cool you ask? Well, we do lots of swimming and then when that gets boring, we go to Tempe Marketplace and sit under the misters while the children play in the splash area located between the shops.
Our last venture to the splash area was very exciting and the kids really enjoyed getting wet and cooling off. It was all very exciting especially for Porter. He had a hard time figuring out why water kept coming out of the holes on the ground and spraying him in the face, so he would look very hard into the hole to see where it would come from only to get sprayed again. There was a bit of drama at the end when Ethan stepped on a piece of broken glass (which was actually a broken piece of decorate rock they placed around the play area) and cut his heel open. When open wounds and lots of water meet, there is even more blood then usual, so the security guards got involved and I am pretty sure we scared off a few families with other kids running around with bare feet. Ethan is okay though and after a well placed band-aid, all was well and we ended the day with Cold Stone Creamery. Ahhhhhh... now that is a nice way to stay cool in the hot AZ sun.
