Our Summer Staycation

This summer was planned to include a 4th of July trip to Cedar City, Utah for a family reunion, but once we calculated how much we would spend on gas, we opted for the staycation instead of the vacation. We found ourselves at a loss for activities when the Utah trip fell through, and EK still had a week of vacation time planned, so we got busy and found a few local activities that sounded fun for the whole family. We ended up doing quite a few exciting things.

On Thursday the 3rd we went to Cerreta's Chocolate Factory in Glendale where we were able to take a small tour of the factory and then Ethan and Kaiya each got to make their very own chocolate pizza with the toppings of their choice. The hard part was waiting for the warm, liquid, chocolate to cool so they could eat it.

On Friday the 4th we went to my parent's house and had a swimming party/BBQ. There was so much food and lots of fun. Heather's parents were down from Green Valley so they came too. We played Loaded Questions (the board game) until we could not stay awake any longer and had lots of laughs with the family. The unfortunate part of the evening was that the wind was blowing so much that the local fireworks were cancelled, but there is always next year right?

On Saturday, Ethan had some friends over to swim and Kaiya and I went and did another Girls Night Out (which was actually a day out, but she would not have that). We went to As You Wish and Kaiya painted a unicorn and then we went and got some ice cream.

The adventure continued on Monday when we took the kids and Nana (my Mom) to Stuffington Bear Factory. It is very similar to Build A Bear Workshop, but it had a tour of the back room where they actually cut the patterns for the bears and sew them together. The kids each got to pick their favorite animal carcass and then they stuffed it, combed it, gave it a bath, and then dressed it. I am pretty sure this was the best part of their staycation.

All in all we had a great time and kept plenty busy while saving tons of money on gas.
